Debates

I’m not really sure what I think about debating. It’s nice to get your views heard and to hear others. However, if a debate gets heated, people of the opposing view may say unnecessary things about your view and may not be polite, which I think is bad. I’ve never really been in a debate, so I don’t know what my strengths would be as of yet. However, I think that my weakness would be that I wouldn’t want to say anything to offend or hurt someone else’s feelings.

Ten topics that could be discussed are:
1. The death sentence.
2. Penalty of serving life in jail.
3. Abortion
4. Universal Healthcare
5. Stem-cell research
6. Official language of U.S.
7. Taxes
8. The bail out of stock market
9. Legalization of marijuana
10. Assisted Suicide

Opinion of the Week. 2

My opinion for this week deals with the issue of laundry. If you are only a few minutes late, an impatient person will throw all of your stuff onto the table for all to see. We have our room numbers on the washer/dryer for a reason. Yet, a few people still decide to do with your laundry as they please, instead of being polite and knocking on your door for you to get it. People should have more respect for each other and their belongings.

Opinion of the Week.

I’m sure that we all are able to tell who the promiscuous girls on campus are. They strut around wearing belly shirts that have an incredibly low v cut, wear their hair in a high pony tail so that we can catch a glimpse of their newly received hicky, have the lowest low cut jeans on with a thong sticking out when they sit down, and wear so much makeup that they resemble a burnt orange. I don’t understand why they they think they look so good and even more so, why they think this is acceptable. Women should take pride in theirself and their bodies and should not just give theirself away to every guy who shows them attention. Seriously, have some respect for yourself and your body.

My Ideal Mate

Lets see, my ideal mate would have to be physically attractive in my eyes, because appearance is usually what first attracts us to that special someone. He would have to have a great sense of humor; the type of man who can make any individual laugh in any circumstance. We would have to have similar taste in music and in morals. He would have to treat me with respect, because I have learned from experience that some men are completely incapable of being nice to their girlfriends. I’m not really sure how to describe my ideal mate. I’m a picky lady and won’t date a guy who is not up to my standards, because I know what I deserve.

The Room.

As you take your first step into my room, you step upon a rich blue shag carpet. Our curtains hanging to the left are bright green, yellow, pink, and orange. As you step through the door way your eyes fall upon the desks scattered with pictures and projects. Our beds stick out with my roommates being bright orange bedding and mine being lime green. The walls are clean and white, my side with a bright yellow ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ poster. Our room smells of aussie hair products and with a light fragrance of flowers. Over all, my dorm is awesome.

Cows chases away Bear

A rural town 30 miles northwest of Denver, Colorado experienced a sight for sore eyes. The residents witnessed a cow chasing away a bear from an apple tree. The cow, named Apple, chased the bear off of a limb he had climbed upon in her favorite apple tree. The bear actually climbed out of the tree as Apple approached.
Their are no signs that the animals were hurt.

Humane Hair in Pizza?

According to the fox news article on the human hair trade, hair is being used for more than just wigs. Human hair is an active ingredient used in items such as pizza, dough, bagels, and even fertilizer!
A warehouse, owned by Blair Blacker, is located in Florida City, FL. where a stock-in-trade business of human hair is occurring. He receives about 15 tons of human hair, which is imported by china and it is neatly pressed into mats. The mats are then ready to be shipped to farmers and nursery growers.
The mats of hair have a large range of use, from the common false eyelashes and wigs to the more unknown use that it is used as raw-material source for I-cysteine, which is an amino acid that is used frequently in baked goods such as pizza, dough, and bagels.
According to the United Nations Trade statistics, China and India exported more than $154 million dollars worth of human hair just last year and these are Blacker’s main suppliers.
Their is even more information about this on the link below. I personally find this disgusting and I’m surprised that America hasn’t heard more on this subject or about it sooner than now.

Hope

“Hope is a good thing- maybe the best thing, and no good thing ever dies.” – Stephen King

I believe that we all hope for what we desire, but unless we act upon them, all hope can do is make us feel a little better. Even when everything in our life may not be going as we plan, we’ll always have hope. I think hope can in a way, give us a sense of security in our life. As if it gives us a feeling that no matter how bad life is at the time their is still something to hold on to and aspire to accomplish.

Andy Warhol

                                                                       Andy Warhol
                                                                       Dollar Signs, c. 1981

Dollar Signs is one of the most simplistic pieces of work made by Andy Warhol. I love this piece, because some of the dollar signs pop and others blend in more to the background. Some are sketchy, bold, scratchy, or dull. I believe each represents a different view on the meaning of money to people.
The artist, Andy Warhol, is one of the most popular pop artists known to us. It has been said that he has defined the movement and culture of pop art. He is most popular for his works of coke bottles, celebrities, dollar signs, and campbell soup cans.

Algid

This week I chose the word algid. Algid means chilly or cold and it derives from the latin word algidus, which is from algere, meaning “to be cold.” Algid is an adjective and is pronounced as (al’-jid). I chose this word, because soon we will be experiencing algid weather.
